KUALA LUMPUR, September 30, 2026 (DAILYNWZ) — Malaysia has strongly condemned the latest incursion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem by more than 1,000 Israeli settlers and senior officials, and called on the United Nations Security Council to take urgent action.

The Foreign Ministry said the incursion on September 28, led by Israel’s national security minister and carried out under the protection of Israeli forces, constituted a serious violation of international law and the established historical and legal status quo governing the holy site.

“The deliberate storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque constitutes a grave violation, undermines the established historical and legal status quo of the Holy Site and is a blatant attempt to create a new reality on the ground,” the ministry said.

Malaysia said the repeated incursions by Israeli settlers and senior officials were not isolated incidents but part of what it described as continuing efforts to alter the identity and character of Al-Aqsa Mosque and occupied East Jerusalem.

The ministry said Malaysia “categorically” rejects such attempts and stressed that the sanctity of Al-Aqsa and the religious rights of Muslim worshippers must be respected and protected.

It urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take “urgent and concrete” measures to compel Israel to halt what Kuala Lumpur described as deliberate and serious violations. Malaysia also called for accountability over what it said were continued attempts to undermine the historical and legal status quo at Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

The latest incursion took place during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Malaysian state news agency Bernama reported that more than 1,000 Israeli settlers and senior officials entered the compound on September 28 under the protection of Israeli forces.

Malaysia also reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and its longstanding backing for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement adds to a series of Malaysian condemnations of Israeli actions at Al-Aqsa this year. The Foreign Ministry has repeatedly called for preservation of the site’s established status and for international action over incursions.
