ACCRA, 18 September 2026 — Lumina Telco Ltd. said on Thursday it had secured a provisional award for a mid-band 5G spectrum block in a regional regulator’s multi-round auction, after submitting the highest conforming bid above the published reserve. The provisional award covers a contiguous block in a mid-band range commonly used for urban and suburban 5G capacity. Lumina said it had paid the required deposit and must file a network build-out plan within 90 days. Final license issuance remains subject to fit-and-proper checks and spectrum-fee settlement. “This block lets us densify capacity where smartphone traffic is growing fastest, said Chief Executive Nadia Mensah Boateng. Auction rules capped how much spectrum any single operator could hold in the band. Two rival carriers secured other blocks in the same session. Industry analysts said mid-band awards typically drive multi-year capital expenditure on radios and fiber backhaul. Consumer groups urged the regulator to publish coverage obligations and rural-extension conditions clearly. Lumina shares rose 2.1 percent after the filing. A fuller fee and rollout schedule is expected when the provisional award converts to a final license.
