AMMAN, November 05, 2026 (DAILYNWZ) — A Jordanian security officer was killed and another wounded in a stabbing attack in the capital Amman on Thursday, prompting an investigation into what authorities described as a planned terrorist assault.

The suspect was arrested following the attack, which took place near the Sri Lankan embassy, Jordan’s Public Security Directorate said.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the attacker had deliberately planned to target public security personnel in what the directorate described as a “terrorist attack”.

The authorities did not immediately provide further details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the assault.

The incident comes less than two weeks after a deadly shooting at a funeral in a church in Jordan’s Karak governorate on October 23, which left nine people dead and 40 others wounded. The attack was an unusual act of violence against the country’s Christian minority.

It was not immediately clear whether Thursday’s stabbing was connected to the church shooting.

The earlier attack heightened security concerns in the kingdom and prompted a strong response from King Abdullah II, who vowed that extremist groups would not be allowed to undermine Jordan’s stability.

On Monday, the monarch said terrorists would not be permitted to threaten the country’s unity and security. The church attack had also prompted Jordanian military strikes in neighbouring Syria.

Thursday’s assault adds to security concerns as Jordan faces the fallout from the recent violence, although authorities have not established any link between the two incidents.
