Assembly hall for Morocco UNGA speech

UNITED NATIONS, September 23, 2026 (DAILYNWZ) — Morocco said the Palestinian issue remains an “enduring priority” of its foreign policy, with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, unrestricted humanitarian aid and a path to an independent Palestinian state.

Speaking on behalf of Morocco during the general debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Bourita said lasting peace in the Middle East depends on the creation of a sovereign and viable Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital, living alongside Israel in peace and security.

Bourita said Morocco’s decision to join the international stabilization force for Gaza reflected its commitment to peace and security in the region. Morocco’s planned contribution, he said, would include training Palestinian police, seconding senior military officers to internal security forces, deploying a field military hospital and preparing a programme to combat extremism.

He also warned about developments in the West Bank, including legislation affecting the legal status of Palestinian territories and measures he said were aimed at legitimizing annexation and expanding settlements.

Bourita said increasing attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians risked displacing Palestinians and undermining the conditions needed for an independent Palestinian state.

He also expressed concern over what he described as unilateral Israeli measures and repeated violations targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying they fuel extremist and hateful rhetoric and weaken efforts to reduce tensions.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, continues efforts to preserve Jerusalem’s historic, cultural and spiritual identity and its legal status, Bourita said.

Those efforts combine political and diplomatic action with programmes carried out by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee, he added.

Morocco also called for the Palestinian Authority to receive greater financial, technical, institutional, humanitarian and training support, while backing reforms to its institutions. Bourita highlighted the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNRWA.

Against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he urged respect for the ceasefire and the delivery of sufficient humanitarian assistance without obstruction or restrictions.
