SEOUL, October 29, 2026 (DAILYNWZ) — The United States, the European Union and 11 other partners have renewed calls for North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, urging all UN member states to enforce sanctions aimed at curbing Pyongyang’s weapons development and military cooperation with Russia.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the 14 signatories reaffirmed their commitment to the “complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization” of North Korea and called on the country to abandon its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.
The statement was signed by the EU, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
The signatories highlighted sanctions imposed in October by the EU, Australia and the United States targeting North Korea’s use of overseas workers, malicious cyber activities and individuals involved in what they described as unlawful cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.
” Their actions represent their efforts to disrupt the DPRK’s ability to support its unlawful development of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missiles, and to counter unlawful DPRK-Russia military cooperation,” the statement said.
The measures build on detailed reports by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT), which monitors and reports on North Korea’s compliance with UN Security Council resolutions, according to the statement.
The signatories said their actions were intended to curb North Korea’s efforts to circumvent international restrictions and sustain its weapons programs, while countering military cooperation with Russia that they consider unlawful.
“The MSMT and EU reaffirm our commitment to the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the DPRK, calling on it to abandon its unlawful WMD and ballistic missile programs, and taking action to counter DPRK attempts to violate and evade UN sanctions,” the statement said.
The countries also reiterated their support for the full implementation of all UN Security Council resolutions concerning North Korea.
They urged every UN member state to enforce the measures in full, placing particular emphasis on the permanent members of the Security Council, which include China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The statement underscores continued coordination among Western allies and their partners in the Asia-Pacific region over North Korea’s nuclear and missile activities, as well as concerns about cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.
The signatories did not announce new sanctions in the statement, instead stressing the need to implement existing UN measures and sustain efforts to prevent North Korea from evading international restrictions.
